Enjoying the game - Your why:
Focusing on your why is one of the most powerful mental anchors in any sport or activity, whether recreational or competitive. When you know why you play golf, you play with purpose rather than pressure or expectation. Your why becomes your mental - and sometimes emotional - compass.
Take a moment to think about why you play golf and what you hope to get out of it. For some, it's the opportunity to be outdoors and connect with nature. For others, it's the social connection, while many enjoy the challenge of improving their game, whether that's lowering their handicap, refining their putting or mastering a new skill.
Understanding your why gives you something to return to whenever frustration creeps in after a bad shot or a tough round. It also helps shape your goals. Is your goal to enjoy the fresh air and the company of friends, or is it to improve your swing or a particular aspect of your game? Sometimes it can be both. Whatever your reason, head to the course with a clear intention, set goals that reflect your why, and enjoy the moment.
Before your next round, ask yourself one simple question: Why am I here today?
Whether your answer is to enjoy time with friends, breathe in the fresh air, improve your putting or simply have fun, let that be your focus. When you play with purpose instead of pressure, golf becomes far more rewarding - and often, you'll find you play better too.
